Embracing change: changing seasons and skin in autumn

Since its origins, human beings have always been fascinated by nature and its changes. In the past, there was a great attention to the cyclical nature: the succession of seasons, the change of trees, but also simply the alternation of day and night were phenomena experienced with great reverence, and their meaning was the subject of exploration in every culture.

The rhythm of life, in harmony with the sky and the earth, was honoured with a ritualism that made cyclicity its cornerstone, symbolizing eternal death and rebirth.

My goal today is to bring a small point of reflection on this topic (which could be the subject of a book, and someone has already written one!) without any claim to exhaust it.

However, before we begin, it might be interesting for you to ask yourself a couple of questions:

With what spirit do I approach new things?

What meaning and importance do I attribute to the ability to change and renew myself?

Observing nature, an evocative image of metamorphosis and the ability to positively face change is that of the caterpillar, which, by enclosing itself in its cocoon, finds the internal resources to transform into a butterfly.

Some metamorphoses, like those that occur within our mental and emotional field, are so ephemeral that they recall the iridescence of a butterfly’s wings and perhaps for this very reason, they are welcomed as precious treasures.

How many times have you welcomed change with fear or perceived it as a form of injustice?

Yet, even after going through terrible moments, the time of rebirth comes again, a “changing of the skin” that contains the promise of a new beginning, in accordance with the law of the eternal cyclicity that moves this Planet.

How many times have you searched within yourself for the resources to cope with the changes that life asked you to make?

How many times have you welcomed change with fear or perceived it as a form of injustice?

Yet, even after going through terrible moments, the time of rebirth comes again, a “changing of the skin” that contains the promise of a new beginning, in accordance with the law of the eternal cyclicity that moves this Planet.
Whether it is something we approach with enthusiasm or with fear, change is necessarily part of our life and of nature. All that’s left is to find the best and most suitable solution for our needs, to turn necessity into virtue!

And just as we try to adapt to the changes that the external world requires of us, our body does the same silently, adjusting its balances to cope with the change of seasons. The days of warm sun and sea have just passed, and already we are preparing to welcome the first cold.

How can we take care of our skin in this delicate moment of temperature change?

First of all, it is important to know that exposure to the sun and wind may have dried our skin, and the arrival of the first cold can intensify dehydration. Blood vessels contract, resulting in less oxygenation of the epidermis.

No worries, it’s just time to give yourself a treat and a moment of well-being by paying greater attention to skincare, especially for the skin of the face, perhaps making some small adjustments to the summer treatment.

Absolute priority to facial cleansing, even if you don’t use makeup, using a gentle cleanser that respects the epidermis. If the complexion has become a bit dull after the summer, it might be time to stimulate microcirculation with a gentle scrub or peel (which would be a good habit to do at least once a month!).

It’s time to nourish the skin with more moisturizing and nutrient-rich creams to better face the arrival of the cold without incurring irritations and cracks.

With a warm cleansing herbal tea, we are ready to inaugurate the chestnut season.

Welcome Autumn!
